Matte Black with Bronze lenses and Bronze hinges. what make these special are the Laser etched lenses that say WARNING: TEXAS TOAST on one lens and have the 2012 TX Toast Gauntlet of Death logo. These and special Frogskins went to the All the top Winners of the contest, and select staff. These are the last pair available and we are auctioning them off to help a friend of Toast, Doug Crowell. Better known as Doug E Fresh, He was pivotal in making Toast 2011 happen, but this year Doug was in a serious accident on April 22nd. He was t-boned by a drunk driver & life flighted to a hospital in San Antonio. He was in a coma & sustained 6 broken ribs, broken leg, punctured lung, bruised spleen, & serious bleeding in his brain. Doug was wearing a helmet at the time of his accident and the driver of the car is now in jail. Doug is on the long road to recovery and can use our help.

ASSORTED FACTS & PHOTOS

Click on over to Defgrip for a fresh batch of photos that Nuno snapped and a list of random trivia from the event. The bits about Tony Cordona are my favorites.

15 – Tony Cardona (well into party mode) launched out of the S&M shield quarter (in the dirt course), over the barbed wire fence and into the neighboring street. From what I could tell, he pulled it just fine and rode away with middle finger in the air. It was pretty awesome and wild.

PHOTO GALLERIES!

There’s a ton of photo galleries popping up all over the place for this year’s Texas Toast Jam. The first one up is from The Albion. The sample above is Gary Young rolling up and over the Fly Bikes Wheel. Each time somebody went over this thing, it felt like impending doom was only a split second away. Fortunately enough, everybody who charged at it made it through unscathed.

Once you’re done looking at those, hit up Dig BMX. B&W photos always look awesome and this set is no exception.

Next up, we have a huge batch of pics from Prolly is not Probably.

While you’re on Probably is not Probably, make sure to check out Cody Nutter’s guest gallery as well!

Our distributor QBMX has a batch of photos for you to click around on as well. Click on over to check them out.

Volume Bikes has a great gallery up documenting their team’s Texas Toast experience. Above is Broc getting loose in the street contest!

The Come Up was also at Texas Toast this year and they snapped a bunch of photos too!

And last but definitely not least, hit up Ride BMX for a fresh new batch of photos from Dirt Finals!

ARF MEDICAL STAFF

This year, the Athlete Recovery Fund is providing the Texas Toast Jam with medical staff. We’re proud to have some great medics on hand just “in case” and want to thank A.R.F. for the help. Of course we hope their services are not needed in any way, but as we all know injuries are a part of BMX. Lately it seems like there has been FAR too many head injuries. The Odyssey family alone has had more then its fair share of severe head trauma. A.R.F. produced a quick and eye opening video on “skate” helmets and actually show the helmet Brett Banasiewicz was wearing from his recent coma inducing crash.

Texas Toast Jam and our partner sponsor Bell Helmets strongly urge all Toast participants to take a close look at their helmets. Make sure you bring a good one that is actually designed for bike riding.

Here’s a few words from the Athlete Recovery Fund on helmets:

The Athlete Recovery Fund (ARF) has seen a sharp spike in head injury in the past four years in BMX. With the latest injury to Brett Banasiewicz awareness is at an all time high. There is a positive that can come from Brett’s injury and that is to eliminate soft foam helmets from competition. These types of helmets are not approved to be sold in bicycle stores nor are they allowed to be marketed towards bicycle use. Testing methods show that an EPS foam helmet can offer three times the protection that a soft foam helmet can offer. Why are these helmets allowed in professional competition where the risks are greater than anywhere else?

ARF is working with Dew Tour, X Games, ASA and Texas Toast to help create a rule that will be enforceable with a consequence of not being able to compete with the wrong helmet. This will encourage manufactures to use the technology they have to create a helmet with better fit, comfort and styling for professional competition. Helmets will be carefully inspected and receive a pass or fail. ARF is working with several brands to make sure that options are available at the contest should your helmet get a fail.

For a direct comparison of EPS foam versus soft foam helmets watch this one minute video.
