We also set out specifically to design the stem around its own unique forging blanks for both the cap and body. Forging maximizes the strength of the material, and helps keep the manufacturing costs down. Machining the same shape from a block of aluminum would be weaker, it would be wasteful of material, and the retail price would be unreasonable. The unique nature of the stem’s tomahawk-inspired front load body shape allows it to look “normal” whether it is installed traditionally or upside-down to raise the bars.

The end result is a strong, lightweight, front load stem with a series of unique features and the aesthetics that Chase asked us for.

One other thing that’s new in this bike check is Aaron Ross’ signature tire! It keeps the keyboard theme of all his other signature parts and the thread pattern are inverted keys which spell out some fun messages from Aaron Ross and a handful from the contest we held last year (we’ll be announcing the winners soon). RideBMX.com recently did a spotlight on a new seat post we’ve been working on. It’s called the Convertible and it will work with both Pivotal and railed seats. The Convertible’s design provides a traditional offset that is not found on the average Pivotal post. A lot of riders lean toward a seat position that is not achievable with a zero-offset post, so if you ever wanted to run your Pivotal seat pushed back, or forward, the Convertible will now allow you to do it.

An uncut Convertible Post, without guts, weighs approximately 4.3 ounces. Its unique forged design allows the post to be slammed without leaving the seat excessively high. If you’re not interested in the offset, the guts will obviously work with all other Pivotal posts and Pivotal compatible frames as well. Rather than simply rebrand a zero-offset Pivotal post, we wanted to provide another option for riders to pick from when looking for more flexibility with their bike set ups. These tires won’t be available until late May, so consider this a sneak peek!

G-Sport Ratchet Hub

Don’t call the Ratchet a cassette. There isn’t a “cassette” of cogs here, just a rock solid one-piece driver. Every component has been designed from the ground up to be as smooth and solid as possible. The pawls and ratchet ring are oversize, and because the driver and hub both run on the famously stiff 20mm G-Sport axle, everything will always be held in strict alignment.

» 3 independent long-travel springs.
» Spring and pawl retention system ensures optimum alignment of pawls and drive ring, and keeps the hardware securely in place during routine maintenance.

Interbike 2009 just started today and the first feature up in our flipbook is the Purple Rain Colorway. As with all of our flipbooks, these guys are portable. Click the EMBED button to copy the HTML code you need to post it in your MySpace, blogs, profiles, websites, etc.

Getting Ready for Interbike

 

When I first started working at Odyssey, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of these. I wanted to witness first hand what the party ruckus was all about. When I finally did, it most definitely did not disappoint! Not only can I use it to take my wheels off but with optional after market allen heads, I can use it to take off other parts of the bike too. The best part is, it’s not limited to just the bike. Last night, I used it to disassemble a futon!

Some of you eagle-eyed the Tanwall tires in those riding pics that Jim posted from the other day, and emails/comments began.

Above is a better pic of my bike with the Tanwall tires so you can check them out. The front is a knobby Aitken, and the rear is a Path. The label on the tire is not right, so disregard that.

These Tanwall tires are being made to “look” like old school skinwalls, but are way more durable as the casings coincide with what we are offering now. Actual skinwalls wouldn’t hold up very well these days, but the Tanwalls will.
