The gland fits on any hub as a spoke guard. If you are looking to protect the hub shell/hardware itself, it depends on what hub you have.

You guys are definately right about the guard being big and ugly, don’t get me wrong, but wouldn’t you rather worry about how it works other than how it looks first? I’d rather have a so-so looking bike that had high quality parts than a good looking bike that had parts that were worth crap.

Just getting them in a Distrubution company is not going to really help much.

ok, someone is obviously a little.. no, VERY immature. if you read anything about this deal, you’d know that there will be extremely good quality control and that what you refer to as a “clone” isn’t the real meaning of a “clone” at all. you say by the hubs being taiwan made they are clones. g’s hubs are designed by him to his specs, he didn’t simply point to hubs in a catalog.. that woudl be a clone… I doubt this is sheepdog since none of this was said on yoru website and you are still cool with G on there. post a thread about it if it is you.. but I know it’s not since it’s probably a 13 year old boy starting puberty and has testosterone spikes which cause anger and mood swings

I’d also like to point out if you know much about the deal, George didn’t sell out to anyone. The man is a genious, yet didn’t have the ability to mass produce quality parts. Odyssey is opening the door for him to get something accomplished. Have you seen the man’s bike? It is a giant experiment and everything works excellent. You should be happy a guy as intelligent as him is trying to make a good change in the industry. You can thank BMXBOARD for everything great that is to come out of this.
George isn’t selling out and if you quit buying his product, you’re only losing out.
George is the man, plain and simple.

if you were George, (which your NOT!…so u should get over it) and had 100 different product ideas in you head and a company that wouldnt exactly let u stay in 5 start hotels when u have the erge and someone put a deal on the plate like this…you whould be one fuking big idiot to pass it up to keep some image or some shit!
If you stop and thing about what this could mean to bmx parts as a whole, you would understand that this can do nothing but good all around
1. G gets to clear his head
2. G-sport stuff is a little cheaper ($$$ wise!)
3. Odyssey will have some fukin awsome parts coming out that will probably be stronger then 3/4 the stuff on the market and 1/2 the weight.
the only downside i can think of is dumbarses that lay shit on G because he can find away to bring in more money, make shit that will be fukin awsome, and keep doing it!

Yeah but the problem with Odyssey is it is a corporation, compared to G-Sports rider owned image. When you combine them you turn G-Sport into a branch of Odyssey thus making it part of a corparation.
I much prefer to support my rider owned companies beacuase you get to actually meet the comapny and talk with them.

Fatguy, seriously, go get some help. Why on earth would the location of a manufacturer make one bit of a difference on the quality of a hub shell? Do we use some sort of magical aluminum that the tai’s cant get, as to make it impervious to nicks and scratches? If you have a problem with someone being able to let his idea be used productively on a global scale, at a cheaper price, and decide that you arent going to support him because of that, then I suggest that you go buy a 300,000 dollar CNC mill, conjure up some incredible ultra highend, ultra-dope barend that makes you bunnyhop higher because it was made in america, and then sell it to your 3 or 4 other friends and then turn them pro on your team. And honestly, I dont think that he is going to be needing your business anyway. And btw, what makes you so much better than the chaps running the lathes in Taiwan? Stop being so prejudiced and concentrate on a diet.

I would rather be able to go to a comapny and look at how they make their products and learn how they do to get insight on what and what not to do. I have visted Solid’s warehouse a bunch of times and its a cool thing to see how these comapnies work and to get to talk with the people that are making the stuff. When you make stuff over in Tawaian, you arent going to be able to meet the workers and see how they do their work. I just like to be able to support a company that can actually make their own products.

If George didn’t get ahold of Odyssey there would be no Elementary stem.
He doesn’t have the capabilities to mass produce something like that. Last time he made a stem, they turned out inconsistently.
George walks around the house with a cup of tea drawing and thinking up all the ideas he can. He makes what he can.
Odyssey is making sure George can have that tea in his hand walking around the house. It’s not like G-Sport is going to become a huge company, it’s going to be George thinking up crazy shit that helps. I imagine you live in America? You’d never see George’s set up anyway. His tools are in his shed in England.

Regarding the quality issue, many people seem to be of the wrongly informed opinion that people from another country, on a lower wage, make shit product.
This was true in the past as the developing coutries struggled to enter the market. They had no design skills or Engineering training so they ripped off existing product and played in the market on low price. You pay your money, you makes your choice. Save a quid (buck, euro, krona) and cut quality. Pile ‘em high and sell ‘em cheap. 10 years ago when G started, that was the case with BMX and his statement, for the time, stands.
In these modern, forward thinking times, many Western companies have taken business to the lower cost manufacturing locations. By educating the factories that we are not always looking for price but quality is also a key requirement the standards have been raised. Going to Taiwan is just as risky as going to ‘Bob’s Big CNC turning and milling shop’. Less so if there is already some business relationship in place.
Unlike some other narrow minded doom-bringers, I have visited Chinese manufacturing sites and sourced product. Product that used to be Made In England. It hurts to do this when your buddies are out of work from your actions but it’s a dog eat dog world. The inertia has started…
I work for a real but un-named company with world renowned products based on 100 years of history, experience and innovation.
Point is - our last batch of product EXCEEDED the performance of our UK made gear. At half the cost. Fo’ real - no arguing. The Engineering team were almost crying but it’s unstoppable.
Big wins for the consumer, the manufacturer and the company. Losses for the UK workers and that hurts.
Anyway, in G’s case there were no workers to loose - just subcontractors. You guys get a cheaper product of at least a same spec. and G gets to unleash his tea-fuelled designs on the masses.
As a counter-argument to selling out - imagine this. G stayed in control, got a loan for some global distribution and a ad campaign backed by superstars who can shit tricks you only dream of and sold a million hubs on the back of it. With the profit, he started a factory, increased production and dropped prices and sold another cool mill or so before floating G-Sport plc. In the back room there is a spine mini where he holds his board meetings. Rider owned? You betcha! Corporation! Too damn right. Sell out? What the hell does that mean? Are you telling me you have too many ‘principles’ to work?
What is my point? To all the negative posters - Who gives a damn what G does or where the product is made, as long as the product is to the original design spec. If you are going to knock someone for living their life, you’d better back up your argunment and justify your thoughts before you post shit.

alright, baisically i fully support G-sport and odyssey and am sure I always will, i think its a great thing that this partnership has been made, so props to you all, especially George.

why not? people are still working just like in an American warehouse. Just because they come from a poorer country than America (which is very easy to be), doesn’t mean they won’t be cool people. It isn’t all sweat shops as companies like S and m make out.
Also to answer some earlier, unanswered questions:
the G.L.A.N.D. can fit on pratically any hub (but not driveside), it wieghs 2oz (i think) and the warrenties, i pretty sure, should still be on the Taiwanese products.
