What happen to mike's cranks at the saint patricks jam (the foxtrails edit on lotek/fitbikeco site)? how could they just twist around? that is what it looks like happend?

Posted by: MäNz at April 10, 2007 02:01 PM

The cranks in that video are most likely from one of the pre-production runs since Mike reported that they gave on the spindle side, and that he had been on them for a very long time.

On the production cranks, we've implemented steps to improve the weld penetration in all areas, and the mating arm lug has been thickened recently to help fight installation error.

As has been stated before, a proper installation (thoroughly applied anti-seize, correct lock bolt tightness and mating arm spindle spacing) is essential for the cranks to retain their maximum strength.

haha. funny because that happens to Eddie Cleveland in Lotek Vancouver too. wombolts are shit

Posted by: Greg at April 10, 2007 03:26 PM

so....im guessing Eddie got some of those pre-production ones too???

Posted by: Greg at April 10, 2007 03:27 PM

I actually love wombolts...but i got to give chris a hard time

Posted by: Greg at April 10, 2007 03:28 PM

mine actually snapped the same. I emailed george and its happened to a fair few people, but the design has changed to stop the problem.

seriously scared me, i thought it was my ankle that snapped, not the cranks...

Posted by: ando at April 10, 2007 03:50 PM

The cranks that Eddie Cleveland broke in the Lotek were not Wombolts.

They were from a different manufacturer.

Is Mike Aitken Running Lumberjacks?

Posted by: belnapp at April 10, 2007 07:10 PM

uuummm im not trying to give you a hard time but for one is it bad or normal that the cage thing that goes on the spindle/in the crank arm cracks into peices?

and another thing is it not such a good idea to use a animal 22t sprocket with the cranks? becuase the sprocket bolt is realllyy close to the teeth on the sprocket.

thanks for answering if you answer chris.

Posted by: jah at April 10, 2007 09:23 PM

It is fine if the wedge cage breaks. They're just joined to make it easier to put them together.

Posted by: rob at April 11, 2007 02:13 AM

I think that the wombolts are good cranks, and look nice, but they are far too over rated, im not slaggin odyssey, ive got heaps of your stuff on my biike just now, but there are better cranks out there to buy just now, but the colours the wombolts are coming out in do look nice!

Posted by: Calum at April 11, 2007 03:33 AM

Why can't you guys update like this all the time?!

Posted by: belnapp at April 11, 2007 06:02 AM

dude how come the teal colour is available in the u.k and not on the states. alansbmx.com has go them. how come and what is going to be produdced in the teal colour. got to order the items. is the pedals aslo coming out in teal?

Posted by: riz at April 11, 2007 07:29 AM

Edwin runs a 22T Sprocket with his Wombolts with no problems. Like with any crank, you have to file the sprocket bolt for it to fit.

Posted by: Bill at April 18, 2007 12:19 PM

These cranks break, what where you guys thinking, using a wedge system haha, cant be splined, and thats a fact.

Posted by: Nateo at April 20, 2007 07:16 PM

yeah, it's pretty scary, if I buy wombolts and they will break when I land something big..
what can you say Chris? where is guarantee that I stay alive? I very likes this cranks but Aitken's situation and others makes bad time..

Posted by: Dima at April 24, 2007 04:03 AM

some of the first batch werent quite up to scratch but odyssey are updating the design to make them stronger. if they snap you get another set free anyway on warrenty. nearly all hollow crank will break eventually-with these cranks being new, and lots of people buying them, theres more horror stories about snapping than say profiles that have been around (and also snapping) since forever. you kids all moan for light bikes then kick up a fuss when they break-get over it. im reckoning the latest trend of 360ing as many stairs as possible is a factor in sets of wombolts breaking-everyone sheds 10 pounds off their bikes, then start hucking stairs to flat again.

personally id never run hollow cranks, powerbites all the way (though i do like the crazy wombolt colours)
