Street and Trail riders are wussies

I thought riding street almost everyday would mean I could do a few hot laps on a BMX track. Yeah, I was wrong. I couldn't do one full lap at full tilt to save my life. My friend who rides trails everyday realized his downhill trails don't need one crank. To explain, the picture I posted last month of my friends and I racing, prompted a "reunion" of sorts. I bolted on some calipers to pass inspection, and we were off. I guess in hindsight racing Class and Open was a mistake, especially when there are only 21 motos(that means the time between moto 1 and 11 and back to 1 is almost nothing). So this is my post dedicated to the REAL physically fit BMXers, the Racers.

I'm still sore.

See you next year.

(That trophy is for 3rd place. In front of 4 other "old guys" and behind two 17 Experts. They worked us out of the gate everytime)

I still think your paint job is the tits, no matter what anyone else says.

Posted by: josh at October 10, 2006 02:16 PM

how did you paint your bike like that?

Posted by: belnapp at October 10, 2006 03:59 PM

Powdercoated everything to match, taped off, spray paint(montana brand), a little paint brush clean up, remove tape, clear coat. re-assemble.

JB.
Awesome time this weekend. I think I almost puked after every race. I guess a 12-13 year hiatus will make us somewhat out of shape. Next year it's ON! I'm going to sleep.

Look at it this way: If one other 17 year old showed up, they would have had their own class and you would have won the old guy class...right on!

I wish i could do something like that.

Posted by: belnapp at October 10, 2006 04:51 PM

Sweet Jimbo, now take those damn brakes off and toss the pegs on again.

Posted by: Timbo Johnson at October 10, 2006 05:37 PM

sorry but i can't post anywhere else,
will the powdercoated hazardlites be available in Canada? cause the local bikeshop said maybe not

Posted by: Kyle at October 10, 2006 06:35 PM

RVC crew ?? Was Pauly there or just Stevie ?

Posted by: ben at October 10, 2006 07:06 PM

About those new brakes: I will be buying them as soon as they are available! I use Evolvers currently and they are the best ever. They are still 100% perfect but since these look even better I am getting them, hopefully for $35. Actually one small complaint, the stock pads seemed hard or something, I swapped them for salmon colored koolstops and it is the best set-up ever.

Ben.... just Steve came. It was epic

Posted by: MC at October 10, 2006 08:02 PM

what happened to your green rims?

Posted by: cankles at October 11, 2006 02:40 AM

The Green wheels and pegs are back. I put the black rims on so I wouldnt scuff my sweet powdercoated rims.

The Powdercoated rims are not available yet(mine are prototypes) but the seafoam green(first limited color) should be available in the US on or around the 10th of Novemeber, canada soon after that(as long as it takes to ship to Ryder in Canada.) Please note that everything is estimated. Shipping, Customs, and QC can always change any of the dates.

The Evo II will come with Abrake pads, which is what many of our riders use now.

i think racing is a little overrated by racers but way underrated by everyone else. i remember my first time at the track as a park/trails guy and smoker. i thought i was about to black out when i hit the second straight. its great for keeping your bike control skills sharp as well

Posted by: ben at October 11, 2006 10:08 AM

I think racing gets a bad rep from those who "jock out". All I remember about racing was having loads of fun. There are those who jock out at the the park, and at the trails, and at contests. I say, Just have fun whatever you are doing!

Posted by: Jim B at October 11, 2006 10:17 AM

what happened to your LHD? i just got it and it is off-the-hook. i got a hazard light rim for the back because every sunrim i get i bend. sunrims are shit and odyssey rules

Posted by: JC at October 11, 2006 10:31 AM

I RHD'd it for the race cause thats what rear wheel I had, I will just flip the cranks back to LHD. I may keep the 30/10 set up. It felt pretty good.

(note: Wombolts are not LHD/RHD. They come in either version, RHD OR LHD. I have had RHD flipped to LHD with the Pedals spindles flipped because they are prototypes from before LHD were available.)

jeez jim are you stalking me or something. first i talk your ear off at interbike and then you end up in SLC at my coffee shop, you want to give me a job i know it.

Posted by: bikedog at October 11, 2006 11:29 AM

I raced over the weekend to 2nd place. Racing is brutal and it still freaks me out to jump in a pack and muscle people in the corners. Adding racing to my BMX life has been awesome.

the man knows how to keep things fresh

What? No Pitbull? I'm very, very disappointed in you, Jim. But you've inspired me to put my UGP oval plate on my (already) ugly bike. Time to dig through the sticker box and break out the X-acto...
