1988?

I found this photo when I was cleaning my office last week (for the first time in 5 years). This is Brian Blyther during the "warm up" session at one of the 1988 2-Hip King of Vert comps.

Try to ignore the poor quality of the image. I was a 13 year old using an all manual Konica Camera with a broken light meter.

Thats stupidly high.

check the Rob-O Sticker on the ramp.

Rob-O Ramps had nothing to do with Rob Morales, unfortunately.

I should've noted in the post that Blyther's riding style is ridiculously smooth (imagine Aitken riding vert at that sort of height).

I'm trying to figure out who is sitting on the ramp. Is that Mike Dominquez or Woody Itson? I just recognize the Diamond Back. Then it looks like DMC or Ron Wilkerson is the other. It's hard to tell. Awesome pic! Look how huge that air is!

Ahhh the good ole days..... When mullets where cool and neon colors where in. Nobody and I mean nobody rode vert as smooth as Brian B. And I dare say no one does today either.....I remember seeing him ride at one of the Haro tours and wow you couldn't hear anything while he was riding other than his freewheel. I miss my neon green 88 Haro Master. That pic is BMX viagra.

Check out a few more picture of Blyther, and Voelker, circa 1989 in Portugal: http://www.dinamite.com/bmx/gallery/dyno/index.html

I met Blyther a few times and he is super nice. He actually rode my backyard ramps and I witnessed his first backflip at a demo in San Jose, California... ;-)

Who got the gold-plated bike? http://www.fatbmx.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=308

I've got an original vhs copy of Wilkerson's 2-hip KOV video from that era. You must note that a few riders were running 56t sprockets back then too for speed through the 16' flat bottom. Joe Johnson was the shit too!

i was at 2HIp last year with ron, i think hes got this picture in the office!

Posted by: steveDFTU at October 14, 2005 05:05 PM

Damn, Bob with the 52 tooth reference... good stuff...

Too many people rode those...

Someone needs to tell Wilkerson to release Ride like a Man on DVD...

Roger Sullivan (General) rocked the 56-T at this event.

I picked up my copy of the 2-Hip Home Video at the comp (Schenectady, NY) along with a TRP "Power Tool" seatpost.

I found some other photos. Maybe I'll post them next week.
