bow-legged.....ha...... y does no one make chromoly 9t drivers??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Posted by: jimbo at May 4, 2005 11:43 PM

Congrats Jim on your design award...

Posted by: Joe B. at May 5, 2005 12:24 AM

Nobody makes that small a driver I think because it's too much pressure with the small gearing for the driver, but I'm no bike expert.

Posted by: Brewsky at May 5, 2005 12:32 AM

HEY JIMBO, HERE'S THE LOW DOWN, A 9 TOOTH DRIVER IS SO SMALL IF IT WERE MADE OF CHROMOLY IT WOULD WEAR OUT IN NO TIME AT ALL. YOUR BEST BET IS TO SPEND THE CASH AND BUY THE 9TOOTH Ti DRIVER ODYSSEY DOES'NT MAKE ONE BUT I THINK RNC MFG DOES AND THEY ARE NOT THAT EXPENSIVE LIKE 50 BUCKS. OH AND DANS COMP HAS ONE FOR LIKE 70 BUCKS. SO I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT SOME AND IF YOU STILL HESITATE JUST BUY A 10 TOOTH DRIVER AND GO ONE TOOTH MORE YOU DONT ADD WEIGHT AT ALL BY GOING 28/10 OR 29/10.LATER.

Posted by: BIKER ON ODYSSEY at May 5, 2005 10:14 AM

Nice hop Jimmy. Red gamblers poking through. Is that in Seattle, wheres the grunge? I like the grunge.

Posted by: ATB at May 5, 2005 01:03 PM

why would a 9t chromoly driver wear in no time? thats not true. chromoly is stronger than titanium. i think that companies don't do them because many companies donot encourage the use of 9t drivers. i think odyssey don't encourage this beacause of the stress it produces in the chain and they don't have 25t sprokets either 28/10 rules

Posted by: panchito at May 5, 2005 01:49 PM

Ti is stronger than Cro-Mo. That's why they can get away with making Ti parts lighter.

Posted by: bmxpunkr at May 5, 2005 02:51 PM

SO TI IS HEAVIER THAN ALUM, LIGHTER THAN CHROMO. AND STRONGER THAN BOTH OF THEM. WHERE ARE THE TI FORKS?BARS? THANKS FOR CLEARIN' SHIT UP

Posted by: JIMBO at May 5, 2005 03:59 PM

the backlight photography looks good!

Posted by: mark at May 5, 2005 04:00 PM

Jimmy's the man, and will Odyssey ever make one pice 4-pawl drivers in 10 and 11 tooth? thanks

Posted by: Nick at May 5, 2005 04:53 PM

Titanium is stronger and lighter than aluminum, but not as flexible. For instance, if your aluminum rim bends, it flexes a little, or a lot depending on how bad the bend. If there was a Ti wheel, it won't be as likely to bend becuase of the strength, but if you bend it enough, it will snap quicker and easier than aluminum. So in all, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. That's why some parts are made with ti while with other parts it would be completely useless.

Posted by: brewsky at May 5, 2005 05:34 PM

all you don't know anything about metals. look anywhere you want. ti is heavier and stronger than aluminum, but lighter and weaker than chromoly. ask your science teacher and you will see. do you guys even know whats the periodic table?

Posted by: panchito at May 5, 2005 07:21 PM

Hey panchito, are you married to Bill Nye the science guy!?!?

Posted by: 21" BIKER at May 5, 2005 10:09 PM

no but i pay attention at college

Posted by: panchito at May 5, 2005 11:00 PM

Aluminum is not flexible brewsky. If it was flexible then it would not snap like it does.

Posted by: Ben at May 6, 2005 12:29 AM

Panchito is correcto.

Posted by: Mark at May 6, 2005 08:41 AM

MARKITO THE THE ASS KISSERO!!

Posted by: 21" BIKER at May 6, 2005 11:10 AM

Panchito is correct.

Generic weight chart: light to heavy

Magnesium
Aluminum
Titanium
Chromoly

Generic Strength: strong to weak

Chromoly
Titanium
Aluminum
Magnesium

But take in mind the APPLICATION. Some materials are better than others regardless of weight/strength because of the production processes and the abuse/forces applied to them.

The 9T driver issue with us has nothing to do with Chromoly or Titanium. The stress on the chain is high, but the real stress is on the bearings. The bearings in a 9T have to be smaller than the 10,11,12 etc. We have had issues with them blowing out in our tests. If you still want a 9T, other companies make them, but they are not made to our specs, so any damage caused to the hub is not our responsibility. 9 times out of 10, the problems are caused by the incompatibility.

Posted by: Jim at May 6, 2005 12:58 PM

DAMN STRAIGHT!!!

Posted by: BIKER ON ODYSSEY at May 6, 2005 03:04 PM

21" BIKER, stating that someone is correct, when they are, is not ass kissing. It's a fact! Therefore you are incorrecto!!

Posted by: Mark at May 7, 2005 09:12 AM

aaww c'mon dude I was just trying to mess with you I did'nt mean it. You see I really don't care about material matter my set up is a chromoly frame at 5.10 lbs.crmo fork a custom Odyssey that came in at 45.3 oz so I modified it, crmo bars, get this, kmc bars yes a street shop owner got them for me is that cool or what! and the crmo "JIM'S BEAM" cut all the way down so it weigh's practically nothing, the MARCELL kevlar, and the "CFN" with tabs This the "HEAVY" part of my bike oh my cranks are also crmo, every thing else is alloy and Ti which in the end with the modifications my bike weighs under 30 lbs. not bad and I was'nt into the lightness craze when I started building it part by part and what's cool about my bike is that I can go lighter when ever I want but I use my head so I don't sacrifice over all strength where it's neccesary so as long as it's under 30 lbs. I'm one happy biker.

Posted by: 21"biker at May 7, 2005 10:12 AM

Sounds good. Happy bikin' is what it's all about.

Posted by: Mark at May 7, 2005 10:39 AM

SO WHEN THE TI TEETH WEAR OFF TI 9T DRIVERS, THIS BEACUASE TI ISN'T AS STRONG AS CHROMO. WHY DON'T 9T DRIVERS COME IN CHROMO?????????????

Posted by: jimbo at May 7, 2005 11:30 AM

hey 21 inch biker. hahahahah my bike is 27 lbs. with 2 pegs. but right now its pegless so its about 26 and i don't have a single titanuim shit in it. i love it because its light, but strong as a tank. its just a fit series two frame and everything else is odyssey components with ecception of my seat/post(macneil) odyssey rock

Posted by: panchito at May 7, 2005 07:59 PM

the advantage of titanium is that it can work harden, which makes it nice for gears because the working surface stays nice and hard, unlike your aluminum sprocket which you'll notice starts to 'sharktooth' that is, the driving portion of the tooth smushes against the rollers of the chain and you get a funny little deformation.

titanium brittle? no! aluminum brittle? brittle like cheddar cheese; it deforms in the same way. though alloying has an effect on that.

Posted by: dom at May 8, 2005 03:01 AM

SO TI SPROCKETS, THE TEETH WILL LAST LONGER? ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS, WOULD THE TEETH ON A CHROMOLY 9T LAST LONGER THAN THE TEETH ON A TI 9T????????????????????????????????????????????

Jimmy levan is a cool rider. I remember he used to do the coolest stuff on the first two road fools videos. I was like man, Jimmy Levan is the shit, and I would go out and find the biggest gaps I could find. And he could rock a mean ass turndown. Whats cool about the ad is that he doesnt have to do the most complicated trick, and its still cool. Straight bunnyhop, with a good background to look at. A very nice ad. And he didnt have blood coming from his ears after he landed either. Good stuff.
