November 19, 2004Elementary Stem is outThe stem has reached the distributors, so whenever your shop can get them is when you will see them. Comments
yeah awesome first comment Posted by: pat at November 19, 2004 04:56 PMcool, finally. :) Posted by: Leroy at November 19, 2004 05:05 PMFINALY.....I"ll have this within a week Posted by: Neil at November 19, 2004 05:10 PMThis stem is deffinatly a real good desighn, but unfoutunatly it is not nearly long enough for the tall dudes. Posted by: i love mullits at November 19, 2004 05:20 PMIt's 50 mm's - clearly the average for a street stem. How long would you want the reach to be? Chris/Odyssey Posted by: Chris Cotsonas at November 19, 2004 05:25 PMGood instructions so kids won't be screwing up their stems and blaming Odyssey for it. Most kids are pretty dumb and don't know how to work on a bike. Posted by: Calvin Wallace at November 19, 2004 06:11 PMI hope my shop gets them in soon!!!!!!! Posted by: Robert at November 19, 2004 06:23 PMhopefully tis stem will will cause that profile stem to disapear. my H.I.P was a peice of shit. im getting this. Posted by: YOOOOO at November 19, 2004 06:51 PMI won't run it unless SCOTT FOSTER runs it, 'cause SCOTT FOSTER is my hero. Posted by: MATT! at November 19, 2004 07:00 PMIf this came in like 60mm that would be badass... cuz personally being 6'4" 50 is pretty much to short Posted by: cody at November 19, 2004 07:20 PMthats awesome how you tell us not to tighten it up! Or not to use carbon/alu. steerer tubes! Haha! Thats great... Posted by: Joe B. at November 19, 2004 09:01 PMhow to *over tighten* it up...whoopss Posted by: Joe B. at November 19, 2004 09:02 PMI'm scared... I bet I'm going to overtighten it :( Posted by: Aleks at November 19, 2004 11:43 PMI love this thing. Everybody that I hang around with hates it and I get shit for likeing it. Damn, its purty Posted by: chad at November 20, 2004 01:32 AMf*ck, my steerer tube is 35.5 mm tall. @(#&$#^(&!! Posted by: peej at November 20, 2004 02:47 AMhaha. my steer tube is 35mm..but it is uncut. wtf. how long is the steertube of a new dirtfork? the first place ive seen these in the UK is alansbmx.com im gonna have to get one soon Posted by: daniel at November 20, 2004 11:53 AMha ya a couple of my friends say its really ugly but i like how simple it is so maybe i'll pick one up in the future. then again by the time i need a new stem you may come up with something better, you seem to do that alot. haha way to be odyssey. Posted by: tom at November 20, 2004 12:22 PMthis is a great design!!!!! Posted by: slack at November 20, 2004 12:33 PMahh i dont really like this stem i think iam gonna stick wit my s2 stem Posted by: adam at November 20, 2004 02:50 PMi give u guys credit tho for comin up wit somthin that creative Posted by: adam at November 20, 2004 02:53 PMi think its ugly. part of bmx is making cool looking part, odyssey you guys usually do a great job in this area. Not on thos project, nice try though. Posted by: Jordan at November 20, 2004 08:16 PMthis is one of those things where you either love it or hate it... in this case i love it Posted by: nutter at November 20, 2004 08:59 PMi really want to get this stem but my fork is only 35 mm, will the stem still work on it or am i just screwed? Posted by: Brandon at November 21, 2004 10:13 AMMy Shop will have 2 get it!!! Posted by: FED RED at November 21, 2004 03:50 PMdamn when i get this i am going to sleep with it in my bed for a few days and be scared to put it on b/c i dont wat to hender its beauty Posted by: john at November 21, 2004 06:26 PMwoo-hoo im in need of a new stem this may be my choice of weaponary Posted by: shitface at November 21, 2004 08:29 PMi agree with chris. this stem is standard length. i'm 6'4" also and i would never run a stemm longer than 50mm reach. it makes x-ups, barspins and turndowns awkward becuase longer reach means when facing the seat, it will be closer to your knees. getting a longer frame is the only real solution for being vertically bountiful. Posted by: tron at November 21, 2004 09:57 PMYeah i agree with some of you this stem rocks and its really origanal. good job odyssey, but i cant aford to move to this yet and i dont need to i have a nice basic hoffman fist and the bars dotn move so im good, but if i ever need to i know what im getting this thing is just awsome Posted by: Ian at November 21, 2004 10:48 PMWill you be making different size lengths and colors in the future? Posted by: Bruce at November 22, 2004 01:20 AMdifferent colours will no doubt come eventually. i'd like a polished one. Posted by: broady at November 22, 2004 06:29 AMHi my name is Brett, this has nothing to do with the stem, although it looks nice. i hear word that jim c and others will be in jersey this weekend like saterday, at ed's bikes shope in vineland i was wondering if jim those guys would be interested in riding the most amazing back yard ramps ever, i couls set it up, you guys will poop your pants when you see them u can e-mails me t ecdsxe@yahoo.com thanks Posted by: Btox at November 22, 2004 09:08 AM"part of bmx is making cool looking part" design follows function, not fashion, dissapointing i know :( Posted by: iluvurmomstiddies at November 22, 2004 08:02 PMSo I bet you wan't to send an elementry stem down my way, right? Cool! Posted by: Joe B. at November 23, 2004 11:49 PMhmmm, i ordered mine today, cant wait to get it Posted by: nutter at November 24, 2004 12:00 AMwhen are they available in europe? Posted by: Me at November 24, 2004 06:56 AMwenn will it be in germany... Posted by: Tom Ass at November 24, 2004 10:27 AMi've heard, that they'll be in germany in sthm bout 2 weeks Posted by: ... at November 24, 2004 11:24 AMThey should already be in Europe and Germany. Posted by: Jim at November 24, 2004 12:26 PMWhen Will they be sent to New Guinia? Im just dying waiting for them to get to my local shop... "saffari Cycling". Im bummed cause A wild Giraffe ate my bike. But please tell me when they will be available in New Guinia. Me and My pet Kangaroo are chillin down hurr. Thanks, Odysseys the shit nizzle Posted by: Chad at November 24, 2004 09:33 PMdo they slip at all cause i wont to get it but i dont no how good they really are Posted by: Matt at December 2, 2004 06:57 PMi just got my stem today and it took me half an hour to put it on because it wouldnt fit on the steerer tube. Another thing is ,it already slipped a couple times today and i tightened it plenty. what should i do? Posted by: zakk at December 2, 2004 08:14 PMIf it's slipping then it's probably installed incorrectly or under-tightened. Read through the instructions again. Be sure the that the handlebar's knurling area is clean. There's no reason for it to ever slip if everything is set-up correctly. Regarding the steerer tube: Steerer tube sizes are all over the place. Some actually measure in at LARGER than 1-1/8". Which is incorrect. However, most hover in just slightly below the standard 28.575 size. This includes our forks, Pitchforks, Fit Forks, the new MacNeil fork, etc. There really shouldn't ever be a fit issue, but if for some reason there is, then you should let us know right away via e-mail. It's something that can be addressed very easily. chrisc@odysseybmx.com Posted by: Chris Cotsonas at December 3, 2004 04:13 PMdude i got one and i need help i am running the milk bars and flatland fork and the stem slips on curb chinks and nosepicks the bolt is 4mm out whats wrong ! if you guys could help it would be great. Posted by: slippin in sioux falls at December 4, 2004 12:47 AMthe stem is freakin insane. its easy to install/adjust and it hasn't moved at all. god i love it! Posted by: tyler at December 5, 2004 12:02 AMyou guys need to get cranking on making more, lol. i tried to order one and they said the distributors were sold out. good for odyssey, bad for me lol Posted by: someguy at December 5, 2004 12:37 AMi just picked one up today but cant install it until christmas but belive me ill be in my room on christmas day puttin it on and puttin on my new seat....cant wait :) Posted by: shitface at December 7, 2004 07:18 PMI love the way it all comes together i just bought a new stem and now i find dans comp is stocking this stem dammit. ill pick one up a bit later down the track maybe in a month or two. if everyone who gets one loves it maybe you guys at odyssey could look at improving its looks for the guys who think its too ugly. i dont care i think this thing looks sweet. Posted by: Rob at December 13, 2004 06:51 AMI'm looking into getting the new elementry stem and i want to knoe if it slips alot or stays put. Do the pros any pros run and have they had a problem with it. Let me know soon, if you can, and be honest about it cause you could probably be trying to just make sales or your stem could be the bomb-s#&t. Let me know ASAP so i can spend my money on a good product. Posted by: Brandon at December 15, 2004 04:10 PMGary Young, Jimmy Le Van, Adam Banton, KC Badger, Brandon Turner, Mike Szczesny and Myself are riding the stem. thats awesome how you tell us not to tighten it up! Or not to use carbon/alu. steerer tubes! Haha! Thats great... Posted by: Alvin at December 18, 2004 12:12 AMThe stems going great...but more designers need to get there act together and not just make George French do all the work because progression in the bike engineering industry is so damn slow... Posted by: Ben at December 19, 2004 08:00 AMmy local bike shop is gonna scratch their heads till they bleed when i go in there next to get them to swap over my headset and see this thing on my bike! sweeeeeeeeeeeet Posted by: Rob at December 20, 2004 11:13 PMyeah, it looks cool. im hoping to get it soon. i just hope it'll hold up to my style of ridin'. thanks odyssey for putting out something good. Posted by: stacie at December 21, 2004 09:00 PMmost people seem to not like the different, but this stem is badass! very clean looking, i compliment you guys! great job. just got mine today from dans, damn, i have to wait to get it. Posted by: brandon at December 22, 2004 11:50 PMi ordered the stem and tomorrow i get it, i cant wait Posted by: dustin at December 27, 2004 09:41 PMThat stem may be light but its they ugliest thing in the world. If i want light i think im gonna stay with my fly stem Posted by: macneil rider at January 1, 2005 12:44 PMwhat is better for park and street and 20 inch frame? this stem or the s&m rednack lite or the solid ? thanks guys Posted by: yuval at January 3, 2005 09:18 AMdude, this stem is just unbelivable I could tell straight away compared to regular stems. I havent taken it out for a ride yet but I can just tell from the simplicity and the way it goes together than nothing will come close I mean cmon look at all the regular stems theyre just blocks of aluminium and a few bolts. This is the first stem to be engineered with any thought and my god those engineers can sleep well knowing that they made something groudbreaking. Buy the damn stem, install it, and then build a church in its honour. oh yeh forgot one thing. Ugly? bullshit. Ive got it bolted on and it looks interesting in one word. but ugly doesnt come to my mind at all. put it on your bike, ride it and then tell me if you want to go back to your old brick of aluminium just bcos u still think its ugly when it works better than a platinum plated s&M redneck lite and all the bling bling. i actually think it looks better than my last stem. just buy one u idiots u dont kno wat ur missing out on by not owning one...... Posted by: james at January 5, 2005 04:45 AMi agree with chris. this stem is standard length. i'm 6'4" also and i would never run a stemm longer than 50mm reach. it makes x-ups, barspins and turndowns awkward becuase longer reach means when facing the seat, it will be closer to your knees. getting a longer frame is the only real solution for being vertically bountiful. Posted by: Alvin at January 6, 2005 04:14 AMyeh toke to alvin i was running a stem with 53mm reach before and im 6 2' no real problems my knees get caught up sometimes but this stem is better than my last. It slipped a little today but I didnt quite have it right i was in a rush to get it together. adjusted it again and its been awesome so far but ill let u guys know if it slips again. dont think it will though. im also in alot of shit for tearing up benchs at the local schools from grinds. still not gonna stop me. bmx for life! Posted by: jack at January 7, 2005 06:41 AMCan you get a Ti bolt and nut for this stem? That would make me want to switch from my fly stem. Posted by: Allen at January 12, 2005 04:07 AMYou could get an engineering company to do that for you. Why bother. Good luck trying to break this thing anyway.
