It does need to have full steerer tube, but not much more that any other properly fitted stem. You should always have the fork come just under the very top of any stem. All of the "short" forks we tested will work (uncut) and a fork like Odyssey's can be cut a lot before it its too short.

It looks good. I actually was thinking about a similar design but the single wedge bolt was vertical oppesed to yours bing horizontal.

Odyssey has rasied the bar again in design. I think I will definatly be getting one, since its the same price as a "normal" stem. Will the chock full o' nuts, nut and bolt work with it?

The only two things that I think Primo has better than Odyssey is their PrimoPro hubs and their Primo Alloy and Balance seats. But other than that, Odyssey all the way!

Sure, this stem isn't too aestheitcally pleasing at first, but when 2 piece bars came out, everyone who ran 6 piece bars thought they were ugly as sin.

You shouldn't base your opinion on this stem becuase of how it looks. If so, you should be spending your money at Abercrombie and Fitch instead of BMX. This stem is all about innovation. This stem has thrown out the basic block, 6 bolt stem idea, and replaced it with a new, highly efficient product.

ONE BOLT? That means you don't have to spend time adjusting each stem bolt to reach equal tension. Most people are lazy when it comes to working on their bikes. If I could ajust my bike or most parts of it with just one bolt, I would be stoked.

Easy installation and adjustability
A strong stem
A stem which is equal to the price of all the others on the market.

If you can't look past the way the stem looks (which isn't too bad BTW), and see all of the good points it offers, then you should go ride your 2~hip pork and shutup.

The stem looks really strong and actually more clean with almost no exposed hardware or edges. The only thing is that the steerer tube is exposed. Most forks come with only primer on the steerer tube, so wouldn't the part exposed be extemely susceptable to rust? Congrats to Odyssey on once again being the first in a major innovation in hard parts technology.

The only other comment I would make is about the stems appearence. Everyone seems to concede that it is ugly but thats ok cause it works. I like the way it looks a lot. I think you have to see it in person, because everyone who has seen it in person says they didn't think they would, but like the way it looks.
People said the Audi TT was ugly, and now almost every car company has co-opted Audi styling in thier designs. I think people have to get used to something so new.

this stem is the best, it has the most innovative design, but they took their time with the prototype, so they could make sure it works well, and is reliable. i'll admit it looked ugly at first, but the more i thought about its inovative engeneering, the better it looked. take a good look at it before you talk trash. odyssey is an incredible company. i will always run odyssey parts, nothing out can beat them on their price, strength, reliability, looks, and guarantee.

looks like to put it onm you slide the bars through the gap in the back where the fork is exposed then you chuck in the wedges then slide bars and stem at the same time over the steerer then attach the top bolt.
