Elementary photo

Here is another angle of the Elementary stem on Jim's bike.

Also, if you head over to http://www.bmxonline.com/bmx/features/article/0,15737,690528,00.html there is a cool little interview with Matt Beringer.

Posted by: Joe B. at August 31, 2004 07:52 PM

I like the stem. Hey Jim, how's the Ardelean frame? I think they look pretty nice and I'm saving for a new frame right now.

Posted by: Josh at August 31, 2004 07:53 PM

cool

what frame is that?

I still can't believe that people think that stem looks ugly! It's like choosing between a fat chick and a thin chick(0dsy stem).

Posted by: Tyrone at September 1, 2004 01:49 AM

Primo is stupid, their little rinky-dink site says that the new site will drop JULY 23, it is now SEPTEMBER 1st,and still no new Primo site! P.S.,I think it's about time Odyssey updated the site too!

Posted by: Tyrone at September 1, 2004 01:55 AM

Jim's bike is hot.

Who's bike is the the one in the previous entry? The "lavenderish" colored bike.

Posted by: Dex at September 1, 2004 03:35 AM

Both the Ardelean and the Lavander bike are mine. I was riding a Pantera(lavander), and I liked it a lot, but Mike just gave me his new frame. I am very psyched on it, and I am glad I can be riding a frame that one of my friends designed. Its awesome. Superlight, and holding up 100%.
(no problems with the Pantera either, another great frame)

Posted by: Jim at September 1, 2004 01:07 PM

Posted by: sick at September 1, 2004 02:15 PM

it's a cool stem, but i will not be buying one.

Posted by: Thomas at September 1, 2004 03:26 PM

i heard from numerous people that Volume kind of sucks. Is this true?

Posted by: Thomas at September 1, 2004 03:28 PM

just looking at it from that angle i realised how sweet it would look on a bike with ne brakes

Posted by: chris at September 1, 2004 04:16 PM

Jim, you've got style. Every bike of yours I've seen looked awesome, from the Diablo to the Ardelean. Were the bars and frame professionally powder coated?

You wouldn't happen to be looking for someone to to that Pantera off your hands, would you? ;-)

Posted by: Dex at September 1, 2004 07:37 PM

JIM,YOU SHOULD GET A FIT OR S*M NEXT TIME.

Posted by: Thomas at September 1, 2004 07:51 PM

I am going to keep the Pantera. Sorry bout that.
The Purple Bars are Civilian Lo's, and the forks are Race forks.
I painted them myself, Thanks for the compliments.
The time is east coast time, because we (chris, nuno and I) are from NY so we keep it real. And I don't know how to change it anyway.

Posted by: Jim at September 1, 2004 07:53 PM

yah the Lavander is sweet, and the stem still looks awsome. i like the comparison to a thin chick..but i dont like them to thin. anyways, if i got my bars and forks powder coated would it void the Lifetime guarantee because of the heat at the end of the process?? thanks for the help

Posted by: jorden at September 2, 2004 12:38 AM

I just got the new Ride mag and I just checked out the set-ups (bike check). Is it me or do metros pitchforks look a little bent??

Posted by: heyheyhey at September 2, 2004 01:48 AM

powdercoating does not void the warranty

Posted by: Jim at September 2, 2004 12:16 PM

banton, everyone was talking about you had a super secret stem you wouldn't let anyone see at the flow goodtimes contest. some kid told me he had just picked up your front end, and wow! by the way, im the one who was talking to you about your cd over by that street spine in the front

Posted by: T34418L3 1 at September 4, 2004 02:07 PM

When can we expect to see this stem at distributors???????

Posted by: relapse at September 6, 2004 03:09 PM

Attention Odyssey. I think you guys should put BOTH Odyssey and G-SPOrT engravement there at the stem. It WOULD seem to me like you guys get ALL the glory. This stem would ever exist with YOUR company logo if G didn't come to you guys...
Some riders don't even know who G is. They'd say Odyssey rules! Odyssey kicks ass! or whatever.... I know.... it's not as simple as that (with the 'deal' thing or whatever) but I'm just saying here.... :)

Posted by: Jezabelle Redford at September 8, 2004 02:43 AM

If you cut the steerer tube down on odyssey race forks, does it void the warranty

Posted by: Newton at September 8, 2004 05:55 PM

Jezabelle,

All of the investment (a lot) and risk (a lot) is on our shoulders. George knows that, and I can assure you that he's very pleased with this situation.

I should state also that we've worked TOGETHER on the design and manufacturing of the stem for the last 18 months. It's not like we lazily slapped our name on his finish product. Our time and financial interest in the stem is huge. The way it's being offered is more than justified, and everyone involved is happy with outcome.

Chris/Odyssey

PS: Newton, cutting the steerer tube does NOT void the warranty.

If g sport wanted credit, they would have probably asked for it. duh?

Posted by: chad at October 1, 2004 05:15 PM

That last comment is fucking great. Man I can just see it now... Getting your new stem and its got some crazy chinese character carved into it. Hey then you would know whos ass to kick if your stem broke. We could stop blaming the company and just fly to china and be like "where the fuck is Yakamoto" and they'll be like "oh hes off sniffing glue so he loses his appetite because we only pay him twelve cents an hour and he can't afford to eat" and you'll be like holy shit I thought slavery ended over 100 years ago, and they'll be like nope, the only way we can compete with tiwan is to use slave labor, but they don't have to work for us if they dont want to. Bring manufacturing back to the united states, and get Bush out of office, he's a nazi.

Not unlike this is the true business of philosophy, for it neither relies solely or chiefly on the powers of the mind, nor does it take the matter which it gathers from natural history and mechanical experiments and lay up in the memory whole, as it finds it, but lays it up in the understanding altered and disgested.

If biologists have ignored self organization, it is not because self ordering is not pervasive and profound. It is because we biologists have yet to understand how to think about systems governed simultaneously by two sources of order, Yet who seeing the snowflake, who seeing simple lipid molecules cast adrift in water forming themselves into cell like hollow lipid vesicles, who seeing the potential for the crystallization of life in swarms of reacting molecules, who seeing the stunning order for free in networks linking tens upon tens of thousands of variables, can fail to entertain a central thought, if ever we are to attain a final theory in biology, we will surely, surely have to understand the commingling of self organization
and selection.

Nannobacteria are very small living creatures in the 0.05 to 0.2 micrometer range. In this review by their discoverer,it is conjectured that nannobacteria run most of the earth surface chemistry and form most of the world biomass. Nevertheless, they remain biota incognita to the biological world as their genetic relationships, metabolism, and other characteristics remain to be investigated.

For it is esteemed a kind of dishonour unto learning to descend to inquiry or meditation upon matters mechanical, except they be such as may be thought secrets, rarities, and special subtilities, which humour of vain supercilious arrogancy is justly derided in Plato. But the truth is, they be not the highest instances that give the securest information, as may well be expressed in the tale of the philosopher, that while he gazed upwards to the stars fell into the water, for if he had looked down he might have seen the stars in the water, but looking aloft he could not see the water in the stars.

By means of prolonged processes of mathematics, entirely separate from the senses, astronomers are able to calculate when an eclipse will occur. They predict by pure reason that a black spot will pass across the sun on a certain day. You go and look, and your sense of sight immediately tells you that their calculations are vindicated. So here you have the evidence of the senses reinforced by the entirely separate evidence of a vast independent process of mathematical reasoning. We have taken what is called in military map making a cross bearing.

Some fishes become extinct, but Herrings go on forever. Herrings spawn at all times and places and nothing will induce them to change their ways. They have no fish control. Herrings congregate in schools, where they learn nothing at all. They move in vast numbers in May and October. Herrings subsist upon Copepods and Copepods subsist upon Diatoms and Diatoms just float around and reproduce. Young Herrings or Sperling or Whitebait are rather cute. They have serrated abdomens.

Only gradually did I realize that this lack of qualification could be an advantage. By the time most scientists have reached age thirty they are trapped by their own expertise. They have invested so much effort in one particular field that it is often extremely difficult, at that time in their careers, to make a radical change. I, on the other hand, knew nothing, except for a basic training in somewhat old fashioned physics and mathematics and an ability to turn my hand to new things.

Like many other crucially important technologies, hay emerged anonymously during the so called Dark Ages. According to the Hay Theory of History, the invention of hay was the decisive event which moved the center of gravity of urban civilization from the Mediterranean basin to Northern and Western Europe. The Roman Empire did not need hay because in a Mediterranean climate the grass grows well enough in winter for animals to graze.
