Manuel Prado In Costa Rica

Manuel held a Odyssey sponsored flat contest in Costa Rica(his hometown).
Here are some pics. I will let Manuel tell about it......

Who's the flat lander? I am asking cause of the extreme lack of spokes, and I wonder what company rims he's running.

Posted by: Tedthepunk at March 5, 2004 01:30 PM

that is manuel prado, and he is running odyssey hazard lite rims front and back. you can see the stickers.

Posted by: Nuno/Odyssey at March 5, 2004 02:35 PM

manuel kicks a**, he lives kinda close to me and damn is he good, odyssey picked a good one lol

Posted by: SmackdownMan at March 5, 2004 10:33 PM

were all of those guys flatlanding? the ones in the group photos...

Posted by: Joe B. at March 5, 2004 11:02 PM

Strong rims! Cool flat pics.

Posted by: Tedthepunk at March 6, 2004 12:41 AM

those wheels scare me... i thought 28's had a little bit of spokes. those must be like 20's

Posted by: riderofbike at March 6, 2004 05:30 PM

that's a 24 spoke setup, you lace it in a 48 hole rim. you lace 2 spokes, than leave 2 out.
it's more than strong enough to use in flatland, if you do lots of roling tricks.
if you are more a kickflip, spinning, and side scuffing rider, you will put to mutch presur on your wheels and blow the spokes out in no time.

Posted by: possenier at March 7, 2004 08:26 AM

im sorry, and i know this has nothing to do with this article, but thats very funny that greg got fired from primo, assuming that he was the one who left the comments on the site a few months ago. payback is a bitch, and primo sucks anyway.

Posted by: haha at March 7, 2004 10:24 PM

Its not funny for anyone to get fired, Greg has always been nice to me, and it sucks that he got fired, I hope he finds something better soon.

Back to the thread at hand.....
That is a 48 hazard lite laced 24, and manuel weighs in at about 95 pounds, so its ok for him to ride that set up. I tried it for a while but it just needed too much adjustment. The weight can be saved elsewhere pretty easily, without sacraficing your wheels integrity.

Posted by: Jim B at March 8, 2004 12:48 AM

when does the team leave for megatour 3? should be in the next day or so right?

Posted by: riderofbike at March 8, 2004 08:05 PM

Odyssey is not officially on the Mega tour, but Jim C, Gary, Jimmy L, Dirty Dan, Robby, Chase and those guys are going. In the next few days if not today(they are leaving)

Posted by: Jim at March 9, 2004 01:25 PM

Hello Guys, thank you to Jim B. at Odyssey and some other nice people we were able to put together a Flatland JAM in Costa Rica, my friend Michael Meza and a bunch of other guys help to put the event together, arround 300 spectadors show up to check the event, 38 flatlanders rode all day long, a big group of street riders also came to check it out, it was a whole success and everybody who rode flatlanad at the event got a present, some guys got the new odyssey flatland fork, other got pegs, etc, I was really happy to see my friends and family after 3 years, hopefully we will be able to do it next year again, Thank you Jim B. and Thank you to everybody who help out to do the "Ticos JAM"

Manuel Prado.

Posted by: Manuel Prado at March 15, 2004 01:53 PM

Those Odyssey hazard lite rims are strong enough to hold me, I'm 125 lbs. and I do all kinds of flatland tricks, rolling, scuffing, flip tricks, lots of pedal tricks, etc., at first you have to trued the wheels a few times, but that's because the spokes strech a little bid, after a few rides is just like a 48 spoke wheel, at list that's what I think, just make sure you pick the right HUB, because having 24 spokes puts a lot of stress on the HUB, I have Odyssey Hazard hub and they are still holding after 2 years of everyday riding.

Ok muchachos Adios.

If any questions post them here.

Posted by: Manuel Prado at March 15, 2004 02:05 PM

Hi guys, I'm Michael Meza from Costa Rica. I just want to say thank's to Manuel, Odyssey and all his sponsonsors that helped us at the Ticos Jam, last january 18th. It was the first organized jam in Costa Rica, like Manuel said, there was a lot of people there, every rider were happy to be there, had a good time and see Manu after 3 years. We hope we'll going to make it next year againg, so everybody are wellcome to visit Costa Rica.

Gracias amigos...

Posted by: Michael Meza at March 15, 2004 02:44 PM

All I have to say it was a GREAT jam, and it was GREAT to meet and ride with Manuel during the time he spent here. I hope our scene here at Costa Rica keeps growing.

The men of experiment are like the ant, they only collect and use, the reasoners resemble spiders, who make cobwebs out of their own substance. But the bee takes the middle course, it gathers its material from the flowers of the garden and field, but transforms and digests it by a power of its own. Not unlike this is the true business of philosophy, for it neither relies solely or chiefly on the powers of the mind, nor does it take the matter which it gathers from natural history and mechanical experiments and lay up in the memory whole, as it finds it, but lays it up in the understanding altered and disgested.

If biologists have ignored self organization, it is not because self ordering is not pervasive and profound. It is because we biologists have yet to understand how to think about systems governed simultaneously by two sources of order, Yet who seeing the snowflake, who seeing simple lipid molecules cast adrift in water forming themselves into cell like hollow lipid vesicles, who seeing the potential for the crystallization of life in swarms of reacting molecules, who seeing the stunning order for free in networks linking tens upon tens of thousands of variables, can fail to entertain a central thought, if ever we are to attain a final theory in biology, we will surely, surely have to understand the commingling of self organization
and selection.

For it is esteemed a kind of dishonour unto learning to descend to inquiry or meditation upon matters mechanical, except they be such as may be thought secrets, rarities, and special subtilities, which humour of vain supercilious arrogancy is justly derided in Plato. But the truth is, they be not the highest instances that give the securest information, as may well be expressed in the tale of the philosopher, that while he gazed upwards to the stars fell into the water, for if he had looked down he might have seen the stars in the water, but looking aloft he could not see the water in the stars.

By means of prolonged processes of mathematics, entirely separate from the senses, astronomers are able to calculate when an eclipse will occur. They predict by pure reason that a black spot will pass across the sun on a certain day. You go and look, and your sense of sight immediately tells you that their calculations are vindicated. So here you have the evidence of the senses reinforced by the entirely separate evidence of a vast independent process of mathematical reasoning. We have taken what is called in military map making a cross bearing.

Some fishes become extinct, but Herrings go on forever. Herrings spawn at all times and places and nothing will induce them to change their ways. They have no fish control. Herrings congregate in schools, where they learn nothing at all. They move in vast numbers in May and October. Herrings subsist upon Copepods and Copepods subsist upon Diatoms and Diatoms just float around and reproduce. Young Herrings or Sperling or Whitebait are rather cute. They have serrated abdomens.

Only gradually did I realize that this lack of qualification could be an advantage. By the time most scientists have reached age thirty they are trapped by their own expertise. They have invested so much effort in one particular field that it is often extremely difficult, at that time in their careers, to make a radical change. I, on the other hand, knew nothing, except for a basic training in somewhat old fashioned physics and mathematics and an ability to turn my hand to new things.

Like many other crucially important technologies, hay emerged anonymously during the so called Dark Ages. According to the Hay Theory of History, the invention of hay was the decisive event which moved the center of gravity of urban civilization from the Mediterranean basin to Northern and Western Europe. The Roman Empire did not need hay because in a Mediterranean climate the grass grows well enough in winter for animals to graze.

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.: Tramadol
