Posted by: biker on odyssey at March 17, 2005 05:38 PM

Those are crazy, too bad they're only limited edition. I wish there were other colors that you could buy whenever instead of only 300 pair of that color.

i want them pedals but i don't have any money

Posted by: fish at March 17, 2005 06:49 PM

-queer    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (kwîr)
adj. queer·er, queer·est

1)Deviating from the expected or normal; strange: a queer situation.

2)Odd or unconventional, as in behavior; eccentric.

They are queer! Thanks!

Posted by: LiveWire at March 17, 2005 07:36 PM

Those are incredibly awesome. I like the idea of colored pins

Posted by: Lucas at March 17, 2005 09:09 PM

I think the same coloured pins idea sucks and you need to be shot.

Posted by: smacko at March 17, 2005 11:07 PM

Man, Such negative opinions, I would hate to have you guys as my creative advisers. Why would you be so negative about that, just because he is trying out a different color scheme. Lame

Posted by: Brad at March 17, 2005 11:51 PM

I think coloured pins are a great idea, not so much for matching pins and pedals as for mixing. Blue pins in black pedals for example. Gives a chance to customize after purchase.

Posted by: Chris at March 18, 2005 12:14 AM

i need som o dem bcause mine are shot. they go bling bling in the light becuase they are ghetto painted gold.

Posted by: brandon stevens at March 18, 2005 12:15 AM

nice, but whats wrong bout the pins?! they seem to get shorter and shorter... i ride a lot of odyssey products, but i'd never ride these pedals..friend has them and i hate them..

Posted by: georg at March 18, 2005 07:45 AM

they r sweet

Posted by: goodnoy at March 18, 2005 09:24 AM

Hey Jim, how about longer pins for the JC pedals; the pins that come with the JC's I bought are three sets; one set is really short, the other set threads all the way thru and won't tighten and the last set works really really great long and they really tightened good. Make more of those and sell them seperately, the way I see it is what good is having the best pedals in the world if the long pins are not easy to get a hold of?

Posted by: cfn biker at March 18, 2005 09:57 AM

THats sick, but they should totally make black and white checkered pedals, then that could match my shoes, and the rest of my bike

Posted by: dizzy at March 18, 2005 11:11 AM

I couldnt imagine even riding in those checkered slip on Vans. I bet you hit your crank arms constantly and they probably make your feet look like you have diabetes or something.

Posted by: Brad at March 18, 2005 11:45 AM

Well first off the color looks different in real life than in the photo, more of a richer and darker blue. That photo makes them look more pastel-ish, but they aren't that way. They look as if they wouldn't be glow in the dark. When I first got them, I was confused whether they glowed or not. I had to search the box for the color to make sure. But I like the color

Posted by: Jim Cielencki at March 18, 2005 12:21 PM

As for the pin questions, there have been new ideas thrown around. We are doing the pin without the threads on the end, right now that works well. No real change in grip from pin to pin, maybe even a little more grip. I have left the pins in when I do grinds and so far no real issues, but I have only been riding one rail set up. Some place else might offer different results. I will look at the extra pin question. As far as I understand you can get longer pins at a hardware store, but they should probably come in the bags. I am off to ponder.

Posted by: Jim Cielencki at March 18, 2005 12:25 PM

I like that color a lot, it's out of the ordinary which is nice to see, but I'll admit to be a whore for all things glow in the dark. Must be from growing up in the 70's. I have th other Glow in the Dark Jim C pedals, and that's a great color. You can source the pins in any size you want from a decent engineering supply place.

Posted by: emilydickinson at March 18, 2005 06:39 PM

have you guys everthough of lets say.......glow in the darks forks man those would be so frakin pimp ahahahaha......i like that color blue but my bike is red and it would match so those couldn't be for me......... if there such a color that makes red glow that would be awesome and even brown!!!!!

Well, I was searching my memory banks for a word or so to sum these up and all the letters of the alpabet kinda did a thing like this bgkjbubngfjn, and I really didnt know what to think of em, but now the letters seem to have parted, arranged, and spelled FRIGGIN' BAD ASS!!! How much $ when can I buy em? and do you have a warentee on the ball bearing pedals? I hear that they slip off the spindle and im an avid pedal / magic carpet / rodeo grinder and I dont wanna get screwed outta my cash, for the most part I like Odyssey but I dont have the current $ to foot for sealed, will a sealed primo pro axel and bearings fit in the body of a cielencki like they fit in the regular primo-pro's which can be transfered to the cheaper ball bearing ones to act as a cheap replacement?

for some reason they came out in alansbmx.com in the uk first????there the same price as the old glow in the dark pedals

pedals=woohoo

Posted by: fuckyouhbkbfds at March 20, 2005 01:07 AM

Come on, make some grind plates for this pedal. That would make them way better. Think about it, they wouldn't do as much damage when you grind (great for parks), they would slide better, and the pins would not get stuck in stuff, like some parks which have steel at the edge of the deck. And this would keep your grind side constantly down when you take you're feet off, due to the weight.

Posted by: Le Tigre at March 20, 2005 04:29 PM

ya, thats a good idea, if all you did was grind but what if you did a air trick where you have to take your feet off your pedals and you land on the grind plate?? your foot slips and you fall or don't land it clean hmmmm lets me see that would suck wouldn't it ya it would

Posted by: asain at March 20, 2005 05:37 PM

your other products might look cool with glow-in-the-dark paint stuff. when you ride in the streets at night people will know where you are.
it would look killer!

and sweet

Posted by: fish at March 20, 2005 10:09 PM

Hey Jim, i noticed in Odyssey's Odyssey, that you had the green pedals, but also green evolvers. Something new? (I actually just noticed that!)

Posted by: LiveWire at March 20, 2005 10:09 PM

^its called paint.......... and oh ya is there any chance you guys could sell me some odyssey civilian sticker i spray painted my bars and want the stickers on there, because people are always asking what bars i have

Posted by: joe at March 20, 2005 10:52 PM

and they just look tight!

Posted by: joe at March 20, 2005 10:53 PM

Hey, Asain, I mentioned that the weight would keep the gring plates down. And anyways they would not be that slippery, and there would be a gap inbetween where there is still room for pins that don't extrude.

Posted by: Le Tigre at March 20, 2005 11:29 PM

I reckon the idea of a grind plate is a good one. I get sick of having my pedals worn to shit.
The weight ought to cause the pedal to always have the grind side down but as a safety system rather then a full grind plate you could have just an outer border with pins in the centre that are slightly lower the the border, this way you will still have some grip (not as much as the other side) but would have a smooth and strong grind surface because the raised outer edge would be what makes contact.
Odyssey, you may use my idea and don't even need to feel obliged to give me free pedals when you do..

Posted by: Chris at March 21, 2005 12:31 AM

Hey Jim, I have a question for you guys. How come the paint on the glow and the dark pedals (the recent ones) seems to be slick, unlike the normal JC pedals? Because it seems as if there is is alot of paint covering it, making my feet slip alot.

Posted by: ChrisT at March 21, 2005 12:35 AM

BTW, that color is gonna look pimp with my new T1 Pebble Sand Ruben

Posted by: ChrisT at March 21, 2005 12:35 AM

Correct me if I am wrong on any of this, but use a bit of logic and you'll understand why a grind plate for these pedals is 100% unnecessary. The J.C. pedals were designed and refined for over a year by Jim Cielencki. Mr. Cielencki does quite a bit of pedal oriented grinds, so he obviously has some idea of how he would like his own pedals perform while grinding. If you read the previous posts from J.C. he states that he has had left the pins in both sides of his pedals and his grinds have been fine. From this I can conclude with my hypothesis that if a person, namely Jim Cielencki, designs a pedal with pedal-based grinds in mind, he would design the pedal to perform to the best of its ability during said grinds. On personal note, I myself have been experimenting with quite a few pedal grind variations and the only problem, if you can call it that, is that the paint wears slightly over time. They slide great, even on unwaxed concrete ledges. With that, the only reason I can divulge from this idea of inventing a grind plate is that you are too concerned about getting a few nicks in your prized paint job, and understandably so with a limited edition, sometimes ten extra dollar paint job. But thanks to modern technology, spray paint can be quite a convenience. Sorry, just though I would put my two cents in. Again, correct me if you think I am wrong. Thanks for great parts Odyssey. Keep up the impecable work.

Posted by: ZC at March 21, 2005 08:36 AM

Totally right ZC!

Posted by: LiveWire at March 21, 2005 09:26 AM

Well, this is starting to sound like bmxboard just kidding. Originally we designed a grind plate for the pedal, but there were a lot of issues with keeping the price affordable, keeping them looking good and affecting the performance of the pedals without the plate. I personally dislike the look of those bulky plates that people add to pedals. Right now I don't take any pins out, but in the past I have had a few pins out on one side and/or no pins on one side. The pedal does spin around with the pins missing. One possible remedy is to tighten on the spindle a little bit. Just make it semi tight, so that if you do something like a tailwhip the pedals don't have a chance to spin around so easy in a short time. This is just one idea, there are numerous ways to remedy it including a grind plate, but I am not sure when. We can keep discussing it here.

Posted by: Jim Cielencki at March 21, 2005 09:26 AM

I don't see what you guys are talking about, I can grind down the pins in one day of street. The grind plates could be slim and not look too much like your riding a clip in mountain byke. And they could come extra without the pedals. They can help people get out of putting on plastic pedals at a park or getting yelled at by some skaters.

Posted by: Le Tigre at March 21, 2005 10:25 AM

Hey Le tigre, i'm pretty sure riff raff and some other company makes a grind plate out of metal or plastic to put on most platforms. It's on dans. I know a lot of people hate on dans but there the only place i've really seen it. I think albes and staff might have'em two. cherio chaps!

Posted by: Ronibus at March 21, 2005 01:03 PM

Excuse me Mr. Cielencki, but where are your signature grips?

Posted by: LiveWire at March 21, 2005 02:00 PM

Yeah, but the Riff Raff aren't so great, they don't come in many colors, are way weaker have less grip and not so good of a pin design. And I live in Canada so, I only buy from shops as to not pay $180 for pedals.

Posted by: Le Tigre at March 21, 2005 02:44 PM

Its not the paint damage that is the concern with pedal grinds, its the pin damage. After a while the pins WILL be destroyed and no matter how much jim tests the pedals there is no avoding or denying this. Once the pins are damaged they damage the threds in the pedal body when you remove them. The new design with no exposed thred will go some way to solving this but will still mean you must change pins which is a pain in the arse. A grind plate would assist in aleviating this problem and mean that your pedals last even longer.
I would rather be grinding on the pedals then working on them.

Posted by: Chris at March 21, 2005 04:17 PM

the real problem here is not pedal pins nor is it grinds, its the weather. here in mason city iowa it snowed 6 inches this weekend. it snowed about 8 inches all winter before this. you guys are pissing about pedal issues, im pissed that i dont get to ride.

Posted by: fish at March 21, 2005 06:57 PM

Well, if I had any other color of a pedal, I wouldnt give a crap, but the fact that im spendin the extra money to have the glow, I wanna keep it blinged out still. So im gonna go get me a pedal guard wutever and stop whinin

Posted by: ChrisT at March 22, 2005 12:33 AM

im riding the regular chrome jc pedals, and i do mess with some pedal grind stuff time to time. not crazy stuff like jim, but the simple pegless opposite feeble if you know what i mean. And to be honest, i dont notice any slipping of pins. they could be like primo tenderizer pedal pins and pop in and out of their little hole, now wouldn't that be great!!! losing pins all day isn't fun, im kidding. i am just thankful that the pins thread in and out through a hole that could never get touched. And to the guy who mentioned colored pins, i like that...

Save the drama for yo mama foo's!
seriously, I haven't heard this many people whine about pedals ever. these pedals are obviously better than most other pedals available and for a fraction of the cost as some shitty ones.

think of this, did you whine about grinding down the pins on your wellgo pedals 4 years ago? no, if you had an ounce of creativity or inginuity you woudl rig up your own pedal guards. i'm sure a drill and a piece of metal or plastic will do the trick.

Side NOte: I'm starting a zine I think and wondered if people woudl liek to wriet articles and stories for it. It would be something that woudl be entertaining but still knowledgable. BMX, Skating, Music, Politics, Poetry, all types of stuff that matters to someone in our culture that's probably.. 16-25 years old. you can e-mail me or post here if you have any comments. pr1mo_13AThotmailDOTcom

I really don't care what your biek looks like, i'm just saying some peopel woudl rather lose a finger than scratch their new paint job.. you seem liek one of those people.
about my bike, it's got damn near 1400 usd into it so I wouldn't call it a k-mart bike.. but call it what you will, I probably got the chain form there.. is that wrong or do I need a shadow chain to be considered "cool"?

Hey shutta I did'nt mean to disrespect you dude, I did the color thing on my bike when you were in diapers yeah the 1980's I had the INFAMOUS P.K. RIPPER with the alloy red paint job!! and I know you don't have a k-mart bike but you got a long way to go I've invested more than double of what you posted and I bought my frame in 2003 and it still has the same factory black paint on it, so now imagine my bike with all these killer component's 90% Odyssey and one hell of a scratched tortured and battered frame that is still as strong as the day I bought it why because I RIDE dude it's as easy as that!!! Oh and more component's are in my future.

Posted by: biker on odyssey at March 26, 2005 01:54 AM

you must have an assload of custom parts or titanium. or you must have gotten ripped off from a shop for prices. i got mine mainly mailorder (empire-albes) and I have probably 80 percent odyssey stuff. if you guys haven't checked it out, got to www.bikeguide.org/forums and look through the forums, some stuff gets pretty interesting and there is a whoel forum for people to post their bike photos. sure beats redaing through 80 messages about random stuff that never ends up being comments about what jim or Nuno post.. anyways, have a nice day

Posted by: shutta at March 26, 2005 11:13 AM

Hmmm....custom guards are hard to make, I don't have money, tools or anywhere to get 'em. Anyways you should put extra pins ziploc'ed to the pedal with a peice of cardboard giving info, alot of shops rob all extras and sell them seperate. And also do your pedal caps stay in? I lost mine the first day.
