How can it take so long to make a bolt? If we’d been happy for the production ones to be machined from bar stock like the prototypes (and to be similarly expensive) then it would have been a lot quicker, but instead we decided to invest the time and effort to make a forging tool to give the part a better grain structure and to get the price down. So here they finally are.

G-Sport Volcano Bolts:
» 3/8″ diameter
» 24 threads per inch
» 6mm allen key socket
» 24mm diameter “volcano” head.
» Recommended tightening torque, 35N-m.
» Maximum tightening torque, 50N-m.
» Minimum tightening torque, 20N-m.

The shank is one inch, or 25.4mm long, and the top 5mm are left unthreaded to optimize the fit in the dropout. This design will still fit a 3mm dropout thickness with the Marmoset Hub because the axle threads are inset 3mm to help locate the bolt and minimize the risk of cross-threading. The head is 7.5mm tall, giving the bolt a total overall length of 33mm.

The weight is 25.8g or 0.9oz each, compared to 35.6g or 1.25oz for the regular 35mm long shank, 17mm hex-head Marmoset bolt. So a pair will save you less than an ounce (which unsurprisingly, isn’t what they are intended for).

To be clear, these bolts are NOT designed for use with pegs. Check the condition (and size) of your Allen key before tightening. Rounded keys will damage the hex, and eventually removal will become difficult. Do not force damaged bolts into the hub axles. You will damage the axle threads and/or helicoil.

Volcano Bolts are compatible with many female axle hubs, here’s a brief list:
» G-Sport Marmoset – YES
» G-Sport Monkey – YES
» G-Sport Fat Shaft MkII – YES
» G-Sport Fat Shaft (1995 onwards) – YES
» Odyssey Vandero 2 – YES
» Demolition Mary-Kate front – YES
» Shadow Raptor Front – YES
» Colony Clone Front – YES

And hubs they WON’T fit:
» G-Sport Fat Shaft (1994 -1995) – NO (M10×1.0)
» Profile Mini Front – NO (3/8×16T)
» Madera Pilot Front – NO (3/8×16tpi)
» Fly Bikes Front – NO (M10×1.0)
» Eclat Teck front – NO (M10×1.0)
» WTP Supreme Front – NO (M10×1.0)

I think you made a typo. Homer is 9/16″ so they won’t fit…

  • Alex ( September 3rd, 2009 at 3:57 pm ):

Holy balls. These are fuckin cute! Makes me wanna ride no pegs because they’re so pretty.

  • Travis ( September 3rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm ):

  • Richi ( September 4th, 2009 at 1:50 am ):

these bolts look so sweet ;)
when will they be out and how much will they cost? btw, they´ll fit the proper female hubs, too ;)

  • Ty ( September 4th, 2009 at 7:36 am ):

Will they fit the original Tree hub? I tried to find info on their site but its no longer listed under products.

  • bobbyp ( September 4th, 2009 at 8:48 am ):

they will fit the original and the new tree front hub.

  • Mark Five ( September 4th, 2009 at 12:31 pm ):

If the list of compatible hubs is 7 hubs long consisting of 5 ‘different companies’, and the list of incompatible hubs is 6 hubs long consisting of 6 ‘different companies,’ I’m not sure saying ‘compatible with most inbound hubs’ is all that accurate. 54% isn’t exactly most, it’s a lot closer to half.

But hey, at least they look cool! :)

  • Francis ( September 4th, 2009 at 12:40 pm ):

It’s a BRIEF list of some of the more popular hubs it’s compatible with and by no means is it comprehensive. There are plenty of other hubs out there which use 3/8″, 24tpi inbound bolts, such as Tree hubs, which have already been mentioned in the comments.

can i use it in the side where i DON’T USE MY PEG?????

  • the take rider 907-702 ( September 5th, 2009 at 5:48 am ):

this is bullshit, they dont fit the fly front hub…your letting me down odyssey

  • John ( September 5th, 2009 at 11:05 am ):

It was made with Odyssey and G-Sport hubs in mind. The fact it works with others is just a bonus. Why should they cater to your wants when you’re not even running their hub?

  • Tim ( September 5th, 2009 at 1:21 pm ):

will they fit the ratchet? if so i can run them front and back :D that would be hawt…

  • Charly ( September 5th, 2009 at 5:05 pm ):

YOU DIDN’T ANSWERED MY CUESTION…. CAN I USE IT IN THE SIDE WHERE I DON’T USE MY FRONT PEG???? AND OF COURSE I’M USING A G-SPORT MARMOSET FRONT HUB.

  • bmxtec ( September 6th, 2009 at 2:58 am ):

    Charly…
Can you use the side of your brain where you don’t have damage?

  • Charly ( September 6th, 2009 at 8:19 am ):

damnn thanks!!!! i realized how helpful you are fucker…

  • milford ( September 6th, 2009 at 2:42 pm ):

So Simple Eject would also work, right?

  • john ( September 6th, 2009 at 4:06 pm ):

    make ti ratchet bolts!!!

  • joe dirt ( September 6th, 2009 at 7:13 pm ):

    do they fit macneil hubs

  • kink rider ( September 7th, 2009 at 6:47 pm ):

those r sick but do u need a g sport hub to run them?

  • tim ( September 7th, 2009 at 10:30 pm ):

figured out the answer to my own question… ratchet is 14mm not 3/8… sorry for being an idiot. anyway i would like to see them for the ratchet some time soon. and to the charly guy… obviously you could run them on one side as long as its not your peg side. you would even have a spare given that they sell them in sets of two.

  • George ( September 8th, 2009 at 3:42 am ):

It is not recommended to use these with a peg. (ie. it will be difficult to get them tight enough to hold a peg, especially with the added difficulty of getting the key down the peg)

If there is no peg then they are ideal. If you use these on the non-peg side of a hub that IS running a peg, then they should be OK, but if you hit the peg hard enough you might be able to shift the other side, though I doubt it.

There is a 3/8″ bolted aluminium axle for the Ratchet due out very soon, and you WILL be able to use these with that. (assuming you arent running pegs) and it will save around 3.5 ounces overall.

  • Charly ( September 8th, 2009 at 10:47 am ):

alright when could i get my pair?? thanks a lot..

  • janisk ( September 11th, 2009 at 12:42 pm ):

    hey George.

are these bolts as strong as regular gsport bolts (with that 17mm hex)?
and if so, are gsport bolts stronger than some regular 12.9 grade bolts? (for example, ones that come stock with superstar overdrive hubs)

    thanks.

  • MISFIT131 ( September 15th, 2009 at 5:56 pm ):

when will these be released??? and how much will they cost?
