9-T driver Odyssey V3 cassette hubs and wheels are shipping now. The wheels will be available in either hard-anodize black or chrome, and the hubs are available in black, gold, high-polished or white. The drivers will be available separately toward the beginning of the new year, and they'll be compatible with all of our earlier 14mm cassette hubs.

Why did it take so long? Well, as I’m sure you already know, 9-T drivers seem to love eating through cartridge bearings and chains of every type. Now although we don’t make chains, when it came to the driver, we didn’t want to produce anything smaller than a 10-T until we could improve on the life of the bearings for you.

Our new 9-T driver uses a scaled-down needle bearing and bushing configuration similar to the one found on the G-Sport Ratchet hub. We’ve made the 9-T drivers at a new shop that allows us to achieve tighter tolerances, and therefore also lets us maintain a higher level of concentric precision on the pawl turrets. This ensures that all three pawls are engaging at the same time, improving reliability, and allowing for a smoother overall drivetrain.

  • belnapp ( December 31st, 2008 at 2:11 pm ):

  • john ( December 31st, 2008 at 3:48 pm ):

i know these wont work with the ratchet. but it says the 9th will be out soon for the ratchet!

what happened to those clear brake pads?

  • tommy ( December 31st, 2008 at 3:48 pm ):

so if we have the v2 cassette, can we still use this driver?

  • face ( December 31st, 2008 at 4:20 pm ):

  • brandon ( December 31st, 2008 at 10:12 pm ):

    its about time.i need one.

  • jiggaboo jones ( January 1st, 2009 at 12:02 am ):

odyssey i think its your time to step up and design the strongest/lightest chain that will ever be put on a bike.

  • kieran ( January 1st, 2009 at 10:23 am ):

thank gawd!!! and yeh make chains:)

  • keith ( January 1st, 2009 at 12:30 pm ):

Do the hubs still come out in red or was that limited?

Oh and the clear brake pads are out and are on the strictly bmx site in Australia.

And does this mean that all the drivers will eventually have needle bearings or just the 9t?

  • Andi ( January 1st, 2009 at 3:12 pm ):

Was that blurriness/bokeh in some of the photos photoshop?

    if not, what camera/lense?

  • bikedog ( January 1st, 2009 at 7:45 pm ):

none of the drivers will eventually have needle bearings. george came up with the idea after seeing the current 9 and 8 tooth drivers fail, realising that it would be much better than the tiny cartridge bearings that were barely there, or the bushing-only design that profile has. the cartridge bearings on the 10 and 11 tooth are bigger and quite stronger than the cartridge bearing previously used for the 9 tooth made by other companies. and yes all hazard cassette models accept the same driver, regardless of the shell’s detail.

odyssey has never made a chain, probably won’t either. There hasn’t been anything innovative done because everything has been done in the chain category. now the materials just need to be improved. they used to make headsets, but that one’s covered well too.

the red hubs were supposedly custom for hawk and they never said if they were limited or not.

  • vb ( January 2nd, 2009 at 1:00 am ):

The V2 came in red as a stock option.

  • Francis ( January 2nd, 2009 at 12:45 pm ):

Andi, no photoshop. 1.8 50mm on a Nikon (it ends up being 75mm with the crop factor).

  • burt reynolds ( January 2nd, 2009 at 3:02 pm ):

bike dog you must have some retardation up in your ass. those red hubs have been out for a long time. im glad you can speak on behalf of ody. you butt fucker.

  • Charly ( January 2nd, 2009 at 10:06 pm ):

hey guys i would like to request the same tech in 8t drivers, coud it be posible??

  • Zack ( January 3rd, 2009 at 6:04 pm ):

If you had a regular hub on a bike that was like, say, a 14 tooth, could you just tak that out and put one of these in?

  • Paul ( January 3rd, 2009 at 10:30 pm ):

I wonder how much this will cost, Ahwell, I need one anyway.

  • bikedog ( January 3rd, 2009 at 11:51 pm ):

just helping people with information. obviously the odsy guys can’t answer every small question so when i know something, dosen’t hurt to comment, that’s the point.

    Burt Reynolds, you wish.

  • Nathan ( January 4th, 2009 at 11:17 am ):

You guys should start using black nipples in your complete wheels, it looks so much better, i understand it may not be as cost effective for you though. Thanks

  • Sam ( January 4th, 2009 at 11:44 am ):

The greatest thing to happen before the end of the year! real glad with this!! but how about the weight??

  • Papi Dan ( January 4th, 2009 at 3:09 pm ):

Ok I got a question about 9t drivers getting screwed. How do they mess up the bearings and eat away chains?I’m asking because I’ve been running the 9t driver since 2005,and even though I ride practically every day i haven’t had any mishaps with anything related to what almost everyone say about 9t drivers blowing u (I grind on both sides).I’ve had my issues with the 9t driver on my freecoaster hub but it’s all done with.

  • Billy ( January 4th, 2009 at 4:33 pm ):

MAKE AN 8T PLEASE! but thanks for the 9T

  • Paulo from las vegas ( January 4th, 2009 at 7:16 pm ):

so How much will this cost all of us who want to buy it right away?

  • mezz ( January 5th, 2009 at 11:32 am ):

would you guys at odyssey think about making a white elementary stem cus the current v3 is amazing and in a white colourway would be sick and would compliment many peoples bikes very well

  • Tyler ( January 6th, 2009 at 8:30 am ):

yes please make chains u deff would have the chain market to seeing almost nothing of your products never break thankyou for years of parts and fun riding
