9-T Driver Now Available!

9-T driver Odyssey V3 cassette hubs and wheels are shipping now. The wheels will be available in either hard-anodize black or chrome, and the hubs are available in black, gold, high-polished or white. The drivers will be available separately toward the beginning of the new year, and they’ll be compatible with all of our earlier 14mm cassette hubs.

Why did it take so long? Well, as I’m sure you already know, 9-T drivers seem to love eating through cartridge bearings and chains of every type. Now although we don’t make chains, when it came to the driver, we didn’t want to produce anything smaller than a 10-T until we could improve on the life of the bearings for you.

Our new 9-T driver uses a scaled-down needle bearing and bushing configuration similar to the one found on the G-Sport Ratchet hub. We’ve made the 9-T drivers at a new shop that allows us to achieve tighter tolerances, and therefore also lets us maintain a higher level of concentric precision on the pawl turrets. This ensures that all three pawls are engaging at the same time, improving reliability, and allowing for a smoother overall drivetrain.

Thanks for reading!

Since we know you’re going to ask, 9-T drivers for the G-Sport Ratchet Hub will be available sometime in the first quarter of 2009.

ODSY ON STRICTLY FITTEDS

So… I was browsing the Strictly Fitteds website like I do a few times a months, and I came across our “Driver” hat that we are doing with Estate LA. This caught me off guard (in a good way).

The photo in the post was one that I took with my iPhone and had uploaded to Defgrip via the Defgrip Flickr page, so this is not really an official release photo, but its still all good.

More info on the new hats and better pics soon.

TANWALL TIRES

Spotted this bike with the new Tanwall tires over on bikeguide. Looking good!!!

Standard and Foldable Tanwalls are available now.

MATT BERINGER

Matt Beringer has a rad feature on Ride BMX where he gives you the story behind some photos.

Matt’s got a great part in the new S&M video, and that clip in the 50/50 video where over shoots his shed makes me laugh.

Matt rules!!

One of the main contributors to our Flickr Group is Jason Eichhorst (AKA Skier J) and some great photographs of our riders always end up on there thanks to him. We contacted him last week to see if he’d be down to do a collaboration of some sort and make some of them available as wallpaper downloads. He was down and we are stoked. The first one is above and are available in the following screen resolutions:

Jimmy Le Van video interview

EXPN just put up a kickass video of Jimmy Levan on their site. Along with the interview are a bunch of clips from various video parts he’s had over the past few years. It’s definitely worth the watch and a great way to start the week. You can watch the video above and when you’re done, you can also watch his 2003 Odyssey video part in our TV.

Plegs and gold Evo II’s

Gold EVO-II\'s
Gold Evo II’s, available now!

White Plegs!
The newest batch of Plegs has arrived!

They’re available in black and white now, but what else has changed? Thanks to your feedback, our own long-term testing, and a total re-design to the injection tooling, the newest Plegs now feature a thicker cross-section at the end to extend their grinding life, and the sleeve’s plastic compound has been tweaked slightly to also improve on their overall durability. The ringing in our ears from the standardized testing hasn’t stopped. Every batch must pass on our “true-to-life” test rig or it is rejected, and this updated version has been spot-on. Also, if you have the original Pleg hardware, then the newest replacement sleeves will work perfectly.

We hope you’ll enjoy the updated Pleg as much as we do. So, let’s get back to riding forbidden skateparks, grinding the ungrindable and putting security guards everwhere a little more at ease (maybe).

We know that Plegs aren’t for everyone (and they were never intended as such), but if you enjoy the benefits that plastic can offer, then you’ll definitely want to pick these up.

Thanks for your interest and support.
