TWOMBOLT CRANKS SHIPPING
Our update to the Wombolt crankset is on its way to shops and distributors. Twombolts (Two+Wombolt) are available now in fluorescent red, white and black. We have RHD-175 at the moment, with LHD and other sizes following soon.
The new features for the crank are as follows:
- Updated mating arm lug for improved fit and increased durability.
- All-new cluster design that optimizes the arm’s interface, simplifies assembly, and makes use of a durable AND replaceable elastic retainer band.
- Greatly improved overall function and performance proven both in the lab and during extensive long-term riding.
- 2 lbs. 2.5 oz. / 978g (with Mid BB). 1 lb. 13.5 oz. / 836g (without BB).
New Twombolt mating arms and wedge clusters are compatible with existing Wombolt drive arms (click to enlarge).
NEW INSTRUCTION SHEETS (CLICK TO ENLARGE):
1. Slide the sprocket onto the spindle.
2. Lubricate the sprocket bolt threads.
3. Start the sprocket bolt in the crank arm threads. Do not fully tighten it down. This step helps to keep the sprocket properly oriented in the following step.
4. To seat the sprocket, place the spindle in a bench vise and gently tap the crank arm using a hard rubber mallet. Use wood to protect the sprocket. Snug the bolt into place after fully seating the sprocket.
5. Check for the proper bottom bracket spacer tube size by holding the assembly up to the frame’s bottom bracket shell.
6. Prep the bottom bracket shell with light grease.
7. Use a bottom bracket press to fully seat the bearings. If a press is not a available, a make-shift version can be made by using two plates (old wood, sprockets, bearings, etc.) a bolt, a nut, etc.
8. Note the fully visible and properly positioned spacer tube in this photo. This spacer tube should always be used.
9. With a 6mm (1/4″) sprocket and a Mid BB, use one of the thick (3mm) spindle washers to achieve proper chain alignment. Adjust this spacing as necessary to accommodate any variation with the BB and sprocket size.
10. Slide the spindle all the way through the bottom bracket bearings. The spindle should slide through with only a very gentle amount of force if the bearings have been fully seated in the frame’s BB and are manufactured to the proper 22mm inner diameter specification.
11. Note the thick spindle washer (3mm) between the 6mm sprocket and Mid BB.
12. Slide the included spindle washers on. The spindle washer diameter allows the crank arm to move past the wedge cluster, so be sure to back the wedges up against at least one of them.
13. Use enough washers to cover the spindle’s “step” between round and hexagonal by at least 1mm.
14. Only the spindle’s hexagonal flats should be visible after the washers are installed.
OPTIONAL: Most aluminum dust covers can be used. However, you should be sure to use at least one of the included spindle washers between the dust cover and the wedge cluster. If there is not enough room for this, stick with using the washers alone.
15. A gentle amount of force will allow the new elastic cluster band to expand for installation on the spindle.
16. Slide the wedge cluster into place.
17. Flip each individual wedge up and apply anti-seize to the spindle’s hex flats.
18. Lube the spindle threads.
19. Lube the wedge faces that contact the arm.
20. Smooth the anti-seize over the entire wedging face.
21. Push the crank arm onto the wedges.
22. Use anti-seize on the lip where the locking bolt contacts the crank arm.
23. Lube the lock bolt threads.
24. Tighten the lock bolt as needed with an ordinary “long” 6mm hex key wrench (shown).
25. Check the sprocket bolt tightness.
26. The cranks should spin freely in the bottom bracket if you’ve done everything properly. For additional tips and information, please check the instruction sheet included with the crankset.

i have the wombolts and they’re definetely the best crankset i’ve ever had no problems at all.and i don’t really see any major improvements, which is good for me:D
sooooo will the new arm and wedgie be availble seperatly? since thats all thats new, can i get a new nondrive arm and slap it on?

Keith, No need to be sad, all you need to buy is a 22mm bearing kit… Go to a decent online shop like Empirebmx.com & buy the twombolts & an Odyssey 22mm Mid BB Kit & your sorted.

A few companies out there make a 22mm Spanish, so you can use Twombolts. Gary Young and Adam Banton do. (new BB required obviously)

Ahhh! Jim B. where is the 165mm version?? I can’t ride 175 or 180, I am way more comfortable with 165.. I am running 165mm 41 Thermal cranks, I have had them for seriously like 3 years now, and by far the only problem is that they come loose quite a bit, but I think it is because the splines are really worn. You should like cut me a deal if I send my thermals, I wish they would break so I could get warranty replacement with twombolts, they are just too damn strong haha

Jon, what about euro bb? For instance, if someone purchased a complete bike with a 19mm euro bb and decided they wanted the twombolt, would they be able to fit a 22mm euro bb on? Also, is there such thing as a conversion kit to change from euro to a press fit bb? I would love to get this crankset even if it’s 5mm longer than what i’d prefer. You should do a polished or high polished raw to suit the million dollar sprocket and chrome rims etc. I know that a fair few people liked the idea of chrome cranks and high polised raw would be as close as you would probably get.
will the new wedge cluster and non-drive arm be avaiable for retail seperately? and is the spindle boss thicker than the wombolts? i’ve broken two arms already and am anticipating my third set of same-direction cranks……..

The new wedge clusters and arms work with the old cranks, and they are available separately.
if u freeze ur bearings first then they slide right in without any press.

the new wege mod withe the “elastic band” is brilliant… only reason i didit get the first ones is because they where all welded into a ring which sacrifices structural integrity and makes the ring more inclined to breaking… guess im going to buy a set after all

dude i’m a 130lb. rider (lightweight) and i pound on the wombolts like nobody else, primo bb dont fit too well but 5lb mallet took care of that, i havent broken a single pair since they came out. i cant wait for the new profile pedals to come out!!!!! =P

fellows I from Russia!!! this system looks more reliable what the first version!!!! I broke the first version doing 180 from a small height!!! and in our bmx shop it was renounced me to change on a guarantee!!! disordered and understood that wronged in a great deal!!! as a current the second version will appear will purchase at once!!!, but will less than trust odyssey!!!

i’ve got the standard wombolts and they just will not stay tight even though the allen bolt is fully tight i’ve tryed more and less spacers should i just order a new cluster online? or just go back to primo so much hassle ahhhhh…
try by some new cluster’s and if that wont maybe go back to primo!

Hi odyssey I have been having problems fitting with my Lhd twombolt on my Sunday second wave frame
With a 30T odyssey million dollar sprocket with 2nd bash guard
The bash guard hits the frame and the more I put more spacers on 2 moves it a way from the frame the Rhd crank arm won’t go on.
ive got twombolts and they are awsome…
but the only problem i have is taking them off ive tried everything except for the angle grinder:P. how can i get them off!?!?!?
Hey I was wondering if the twombolts come out in 180 mm? I’ve been looking around and haven’t been able to find a set. Also, do you guys make a 27 tooth MDS sprocket? On dan’s it shows you guys sell a 27 tooth inner gaurd, but not a 27 sprocket. Thats’ the perfect gear, I’d buy it for sure

To remove the mating arm:
Back the locking bolt out slightly and either; (1) tap the bolt head and spindle inward with a hard rubber mallet to free the mating arm, or (2) loosen the bolt head and gently tap the arm from side-to-side, or from behind with a rubber mallet to release the grip of the wedge cluster.
Be sure to relubricate the wedges during reinstallation.
180 and 170mm Twombolts will be available during the next 2-3 weeks. We do make a 27-T MDS. Any shop should be able to order it for you if they don’t stock it.

i was so happy to revice my twoms in the post today i used these INSTRUCTIONS on how to fit them came to the last step and odyssey have put in the old wombolt bolt in the box and now i can’t use my cranks or my bike, untill the right bolt comes throught the post, not happy =(. i think u should check that the box has the right bolt in before they are sent out to the distrobuter.

I have recently bought Twombolts and the spindle doesn’t fit through my 19mm mid BB. If I just buy a 22mm mid BB will it fit in my frame will the spindle fit in the new BB?
